1:1 Chromebook Initiative

The East Granby Public School District is supplying every high school student with a Chromebook device. The purpose of the Chromebook is to provide all students access to educational materials necessary for success. The Chromebook allows student access to PlusPortals, Google Apps for Education, educational web-based tools, and many other useful sites.  The supplied device is an educational tool not intended for gaming, social networking or high end computing. This device is property of East Granby Public Schools.

The mission of the 1-to-1 program at the East Granby High School is to create technologically agile learners. Chromebook usage will create high impact learning opportunities, allow implementation
of educational programs that integrate and support diverse teaching and learning strategies, and stimulate personal growth.

Chromebook FAQ

What should I do if my Chromebook becomes damaged?

Report to the library desk.  It is here that you may report the damage, submit your device for repair, and be issued a loaner chromebook for use while your device is in repair.

Am I allowed to clean my Chromebook?

Yes, however, this is at your own risk.  DO NOT spray or wipe your Chromebook with any windex/household cleaner/water and/or disinfectant cloth/wipes. Clean your Chromebook keys and screen ONLY with a cleaning towelette marked for use with electronics, or you may use a lightly moistened microfiber cloth.  You may also request to have your device cleaned by school technology staff, which would be the safest route.

If I purchase my own device, are there specific type or feature requirements?

Please note that only laptops or Chromebooks will "count" as a 1:1 program device.  This means that any mobile technology including tablets, tablet PCs, hybrid devices, and smartphones are not acceptable.  Your device should have a permanently attached keyboard, a hinge, and a ChromeOS, Windows, or MacOS operating system.  With the aforementioned criteria in mind, your device brand and specs may vary.  The most current devices that will be issued by the District are HP Chromebook 11 G6 EE, for reference.

What if I don't have my Chromebook charged and ready for the school day?

It is an expectation that every student arrives to school with his/her device charged and ready for the day.  There are no exceptions or excuses!  Just as a teacher would require school supplies and homework assignments completed for the day, they will require that a Chromebook is ready for use.

If I do not have my Chromebook, can't I just loan one from the school library?

Loaner Chromebooks are only available in limited circumstances.  If a Chromebook is in for repair, students may be issued a device.  If a theft has occurred and has been documented via police report, a loaner device will be issued.  A Chromebook simply left at home or missing is only warrant for a loaner device in very limited instances.  Loaning a device due to these circumstances will be noted and regulated.

Can I connect my Chromebook to my home WiFi network?

Sure, with the consent of parents/guardians, it is encouraged that Chromebooks are used for school assignments at home as well as in school.

Can I purchase a cover or carrying case for my Chromebook?

Absolutely.  In fact, it is thoroughly encouraged as long as it features school-appropriate type and graphics.

Can I decorate my school-issued Chromebook with stickers and graphics?

Definitely not.  School-issued Chromebooks with any markings, stickers, or defacing will be assessed as damage to the device cover(s).  It is recommended that students purchase a cover for their device, which may include school-appropriate decor.
