Valerie's shared wisdom for parents:
It's best to talk about the death and grief, even though it goes against parents’ intuition when a child seems "fine", otherwise the child will likely have outbursts and extreme behavior. Grief is safer if we talk about it. Express your opinion to your child and review what you child may or may not know about grief.
Thoughts of grief may surface again years later.
For parents of elementary and middle school students she recommends the book Guiding Your Child Through Grief.
For parents of teens she recommends The Dougy Center, http://www.dougy.org/.
(Another resource is books by Alan Wolfelt for grieving teens.)
Your place of worship is also likely another great resource.
